creatures that are already disappearing. >> absolutely. tell us about the other story. there is a u.s. navy ship wreck off the philippines. the military said it will chop it up, get it out of there. is that the right approach? can you tell us what's happening? >> another piece of bad news. a couple today. unfortunately this is a terrible tragedy. u.s. navy mine sweeper ran aground on a coral reef that happens to be a unesco world heritage site in the philippines. we have lost 25% of the world's coral reefs. another 25% is rapidly declining. for this type of activity to happen -- for a u.s. navy ship to run aground and destroy precious coral that takes thousands of years to grow is a tragedy and unconscionable. we don't knowle exactly what happened, why the ship ran aground. it hasn't happened for 40 years. the navy has a good safety record. at this point all they can do is cut up the ship. if they were to drag it off the reef it would cause more damage. they hope to go in with ship-bound cranes, cut up the ship which is mostly wood, lift it and remove it from the reef. i hope the navy will

. iraqi insurgents called him the devil. the this morning the former navy s.e.a.l. who wrote about making more than 150 sniper kills is dead. cnn has learned chris kyle was shot to death at a gun range near ft. worth, texas, yesterday along with another man. kyle is perhaps best known for penning the book, american sniper. it details his four combat tours in iraq. staerted a foundation to help veterans battling posttraumatic stress disorder. the gunman accused of killing him was a former marine who suffered from ptsd. our pentagon correspondent barbara starr joins me by phone. barbara, you've been dicking into this. what more do you know? >> this sad story emerged late last night, randi. the pentagon is trying to assemble what they can at this point about the service record of chris kyle and the man taken into custody, 25 years old. he was caught by police in texas after a brief pursuit, has been arraigned on two counts of capital murder. another man was shot along with chris kyle at this shooting range. the initial reports are that the men had gathered there and they were helping this fo

"outfront," a close friend who is also a former navy s.e.a.l. he knew chris kyle for 17 years. thank you for coming on and talking about your friend. i knew you had time today to spend time with kyle's family, and he was dedicated to helping soldiers coming home from war who were struggling with adjustment. was the shooting range a regular part of that to help them? >> it was part of it. from what i understand, he had talked to the kid, called him up and was like hey, do you want to get together? get out of the house? kind of clear your head out, let's go down to the shooting range and throw some rounds down range, and kind of a way to blow off a little steam, yeah. >> and i want to ask you more about that in a moment, but first, we were able to find some tape of chris talking. he was a very good speaker. he spoke at las vegas, at a gun show about the transition he went through from being a sniper who killed people. that's what he did, killed people, put them in his sights and killed people, to come home. here's a piece of what he said in that interview to guns.co
